Are you dormant? Feel like you’re going through the motions of life with no meaningful results to show for your existence from one day to the next? It’s a horrible way to live when you’re a child of God, but that’s where I had been for quite some time. Talented, blessed, all together, smart….maybe that’s what others may have seen from the outside. But on the inside, I felt dispensable and unfruitful. And so I was. Not using my gifts, being timid at work, avoiding people….. in short, not being who God made me. But God, in ways and words that only He could orchestrate, spoke to me through a recent sermon and a conversation with my spiritual sister, telling me that it is time to wake up. Forget the past and expect God to do great things in my life. This morning, I woke up with those things heavy in my mind and spirit and I asked God to direct me in His word to scriptures that I could specifically embrace for my own personal awakening. He led me to Isaiah chapters 51-52, and this is what he told me.
God is awake (Is. 51:9). He never sleeps nor slumbers. Look at all the great and mighty things he has already done in your life, in the lives of people you know and even people you don’t. He is actively and intimately moving - both behind the scenes and in the forefront - on your behalf and for your good. Be confident that God is for you. You need not fear anything or anyone (Is. 51:12).
Wake up! Stand Up! You have experienced the fear, dormancy, hardships, and “less than” long enough. God says he is taking that cup from you and you will never drink from it again (Is. 51:22). There are some situations in my life that I’ve been tired of and barren by for years – financial lack and/or mismanagement, social anxieties, feelings of inadequacy. But God says enough of that! Today, I gladly take my hands off that cup so he can spiritually dump the contents and shatter the glass. I will NEVER drink of those things again. What’s in your cup?
Wake up! Gear up! Shake off the old. “Dress”(spiritually live) like royalty (Is. 52:1) Take off the bands of oppression – yes, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we can do that. God will show himself to you and through you. Stop singing “woe is me” and sing praises to the Most High God. Stop selling yourself short (52:3). Walk assuredly and live as a daughter of the King. God prepares the way before you and He’s got your back (Is. 52:12). Live like it!
I thank God that as I approach a new year and a milestone birthday, that I can look forward to what lies ahead. I can expect God to blow my mind. I can seize each day by the new mercies, grace, love and power of my Father, the King, I AM. For I am AWAKE. And so is He.
